"The Howard Government has broken another key election promise to the people of Calwell by cutting funding to Medicare and raising the safety net threshold" Maria Vamvakinou MP, the Federal Member for Calwell said today.

Today Maria Vamvakinou wished Mr Latham well in life after politics and said she hoped his health improved so that he was able to lead a full and active life with his young family.

The recent release of local unemployment statistics for the City of Hume by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations were not a surpise. The figures showed that the number of people living in Hume who found themselves unemployed was on the rise over the last twelve months.

“Recent suggestions that the Federal Government may change the long standing practice of having the salaries of GPs who are employed by community health services funded through bulk-billed reimbursements are quite worrying.”

Maria Vamvakinou, Federal Member for Calwell, today expressed her concern with the lack of community consultation in regard to the Howard Government’s proposed immigration detention centre for Broadmeadows.
