“I want to simply say to the students and families, I like all of us are saddened by what has happened at Isik College over night, I want to offer my support and assistance to the Principal and the school community.

Following the launch of the “Vote 1: no more poverty campaign” at Parliament House in Canberra last week, Wayne Swan Shadow Minister for Family and Community Services will visiting the electorate of Calwell to discuss poverty and related issues.

“The changes that the Howard Government is making to the Parenting Payment (Single) won’t move single parents into work and will be only moving people from welfare to welfare, not welfare to work.” said Ms Vamvakinou

Friday the 6th of August marks Jeans for Genes Day, a day on which we promote awareness of genetic disorders and raise funds to improve our understanding and care of those who suffer from genetic conditions.

Maria Vamvakinou, the Federal Member for Calwell said “It’s sad that the number of people completing apprenticeship in the Calwell electorate has plummeted. This massive drop of 33% in the number of apprentices finishing a traditional trade’s qualification is an outrage when local businesses are crying out for qualified tradespeople.”

On Sunday the 25th of July, 2004, Maria Vamvakinou MP, the Federal Member for Calwell hosted an afternoon tea function at the Goona Warra Vineyards, to welcome the Sunbury community to the Federal Electorate of Calwell, following the electoral boundary redistribution.
