Calwell Federal MP Maria Vamvakinou and Minister for Human Services, Senator Joe Ludwig today dispelled rumours that the future of Centrelink in Sunbury was under threat. 

Calwell Federal MP Maria Vamvakinou today announced that Ilim College will receive $187,500 in Federal Government funding through the Healthy Active Australia Community and School Grants Program to run a ‘30 Minute Families Project’.

"The Healthy Active Australia Community and School Grants Program is part of the Australian Better Health Initiative (ABHI)," Ms Vamvakinou said.

Calwell Federal MP Maria Vamvakinou today welcomed the Reserve Banks decision to cut official interest rates by 0.25 per cent, saying it was a step in the right direction after seven years of interest rate rises.

The Rudd Government will invest $393,000 to fix three dangerous black spots in Calwell, Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, and Calwell Federal MP Maria Vamvakinou, announced today.

"This is a serious investment in safer roads for local residents in Calwell," Ms Vamvakinou said.

Calwell Federal MP Maria Vamvakinou today encouraged government primary schools in Calwell to consider applying for funding under the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, after invitations for expressions of interest were opened this week.

Calwell Federal MP Maria Vamvakinou today welcomed the release of the Review of Australia's Automotive Industry, saying that its recommendations would now be considered by the Rudd Government as it moved to finalize its industry policy.

"This report addresses both the challenges and the opportunities that exist for Australia's automotive industry," Ms Vamvakinou said.

Calwell Federal MP Maria Vamvakinou and Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government Anthony Albanese today announced that Hume City Council will receive $9,866,054 in financial assistance grants for roads and services over the coming financial year.

Member for Calwell, Maria Vamvakinou said the new Broadmeadows Family Relationship Centre would give local families important support and advice in difficult times.

Ms Vamvakinou and Federal Attorney-General Robert McClelland officially opened the new Centre in Pascoe Vale Road today.
