Member for Calwell  Maria Vamvakinou last night drew the Parliament’s attention to residents concerns about the Tullamarine Landfill site. Ms Vamvakinou’s speech to the House of Representatives outlined the Terminate Tullamarine Toxic Dump Action Group’s survey results and the identification of five cancer ridden clusters within four kilometres of the landfill.

 

 

Member for Calwell, Maria Vamvakinou, recently announced the Federal Government is delivering about $160,000 in funding to the electorate, to help community projects run by The Uniting Church in Australia Property Trust and The Victorian Arabic Social Services.

 

Calls for the national recognition of the Battle of Crete were made in Federal Parliament this week by Calwell MP Maria Vamvakinou and Hindmarsh MP Steve Georganas.

The motion made in the House of Representatives by Mr Georganas and seconded by Ms Vamvakinou aimed to elevate the significance of the Battle of Crete among the wider Australian community.

Aged CareMaria Vamvakinou MP today announced that the Rudd and Brumby Governments will provide a $520,543.50 funding boost to provide services such as home modifications, transport, meals, personal care and allied health and nursing care to assist older residents and people with a disability in Calwell.

 

 

 

 

Budget

Tax payers, small businesses and seniors in Calwell will benefit from announcements made in the Federal Budget last night (May 11).

 

Federal member for Calwell Maria Vamvakinou is pleased to advise that the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services, the Hon Jenny Macklin MP, and the Parliamentary Secretary for Social Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector, Senator the Hon Ursula Stephens, have announced the opening of this year’s Volunteer Grant applications.

 

Calwell MP, Maria Vamvakinou hopes the Federal Government’s new Access to Justice website will give local people quick information about their rights and legal services. 

“Dealing with the justice system can be confusing and complex,” Ms Vamvakinou said.  

Tackling ObesityMember for Calwell, Maria Vamvakinou announced today $410,000 for Hume Council to tackle overweight and obesity issues under the Rudd Government’s Healthy Communities program.
