Calwell Federal MP Maria Vamvakinou today said that slowing global growth posed significant challenges for the Australian economy, but that the Rudd Government's commitment to responsible fiscal management and to investing in education, skills and infrastructure meant that Australia was well placed to meet these challenges. 

"The potential of further job cuts at Ford will deepen the uncertainty that many of those who work in the automotive sector already feel," Ms Vamvakinou said.

"This is a difficult time for Australia’s automotive industry and for those who work in the industry.

Calwell Federal MP Maria Vamvakinou today condemned Opposition Senators in Victoria who failed to support Labor's proposed $290 million Commonwealth Dental Health Program, which would see $72.7 million invested in public dental health services in Victoria, providing an estimated 258,000 dental services to Victorians.
