My speech on 45 anniversary of Turkish Invasion on Cyprus, & passing of HE Dimitris Christofias

It is now 45 years since the division of Cyprus -   its Capitol Nicosia the last remaining divided Capital City and in the 45 years, the reunification of Cyprus, is still an outstanding issue.

Commemorative events marking the invasion of Cyprus by Turkey on July 20th 1974 were held across Cyprus and across its diaspora, including Australia.

Cypriots the world over  have not forgotten and indeed will never forget the still ongoing occupation and division of their homeland -  and I want to note that Australia has supported on a bipartisanship level the Republic of Cyprus in its 45 year struggle for a  peaceful and just resolution.

On Friday 21 June 2019,  His Excellency Mr Dimitris Christofias, former President of the Republic of Cyprus passed away at age 72.

President Christofias dedicated his life to pursuing justice for his beloved homeland Cyprus, and fought hard during his term as President to secure its reunification.
