Funding for Hume Community Infrastructure

John Ilhan Reserve The Rudd Labor Government will provide $689,000 for three ready-to-go community infrastructure projects in the Hume City Council area as part of our plan to support jobs in the local economy while delivering lasting benefits to communities.

Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government said that the new funding would go towards the construction of a soccer pitch at John Ilhan Reserve in Broadmeadows, upgrades to Homestead Park in Roxburgh Park and an extension of the change rooms at the Anderson Reserve Pavilion in Broadmeadows.

Maria Vamvakinou, Member for Calwell, today said that importantly, these three projects are expected to support up to 27 jobs during construction.

“We will deliver this funding to the Hume City Council from the second round of our Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP).

“The funding we’ve announced today will keep more people working in our community, it will support our local economy, and importantly, it will build local infrastructure for the future.

“The three projects announced today were put forward by the local council as local community priorities,” Ms Vamvakinou said.

Mr Albanese said that in just over a year, the RLCIP had delivered $1 billion to build and renew community facilities across Australia, making it the largest single investment in local infrastructure in the nation’s history.

“Already more than 3,300 community construction projects have either been completed or are underway through the first round.

“Some of these projects have been on the drawing board for years. By letting local communities decide, the Rudd Government is helping turn the community’s vision into a reality.

“Across the country the RLCIP is funding sporting fields, swimming pools, libraries, community halls, water and energy saving facilities and other local projects.

“I expect to announce the approval of the remaining councils’ projects shortly,” Mr Albanese concluded.
