Federal MP Maria Vamvakinou today announced that twelve local primary schools in Calwell will receive $22 million for major new infrastructure projects under Round One of the Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) program.
Ms Vamvakinou said P21 is delivering the second phase of the Rudd Government’s $14.7 billion Building the Education Revolution.
The funded schools include Bethal, Broadmeadows West, Campbellfield Heights, Coolaroo South, Greenvale, Jacana, Kismet Park, Meadowfair North, Red Rock, Roxburgh Homestead, Sunbury Heights, and Westmeadows Heights Primary Schools.
“It is wonderful to see our local schools and our local community benefit from the Government’s huge investment in new school buildings,” Ms Vamvakinou said.
The national $12.4 billion P21 program will deliver much needed funding to every primary school for major infrastructure projects, including libraries, multipurpose halls and classrooms.
Construction and refurbishment work will commence as soon as possible. Many of the P21 projects planned to begin this month will provide immediate support for local jobs and communities.
Ms Vamvakinou encouraged all local primary schools to submit applications for Round Two which closes on 15 May 2009 and Round Three which closes on 10th July 2009. This first Round is for 20% of projects, further successful school projects will be announced in the coming months.
