Under the Australian Government’s Volunteer Grants Program, grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 are provided to non-profit organizations.
In Calwell, a total of $91,262 in funding has been allocated to 24 local community organisations under the Program.
“The Volunteer Grants Program is an important initiative which provides valuable support to local community organisations in Calwell and their volunteers,” Ms Vamvakinou said.
“These organisations play an extremely important role in building a sense of local community, as well as providing a range of important services that local residents can access.
“Funding under the Volunteer Grants Program can be used to purchase equipment and sporting items and give volunteers much needed help with fuel costs,” Ms Vamvakinou said.
“Volunteers are the backbone of so many of our community groups and the non-profit sector,” Ms Macklin said.
“Every day volunteers are out in their local communities working tirelessly to help the elderly, the sick and those who have hit hard times.
“The Government values the enormous contribution volunteers make in our community and this funding will ease the financial pressure on non-profit organizations and volunteers,” Ms Macklin said.
