My speech in Parliament on the Christchurch massacre - 3 April, 2019

For my community of Calwell - those of Muslim faith and indeed those of the significant Pacific Island and New Zealand Maori community - the massacre in Christchurch of 50 innocent people, while at prayer at the Al Noor Mosque and at the Linwood Mosque on Friday 15 March, was terrifying. The shock and disbelief they felt was heart wrenching.

However, my community showed incredible strength and resilience and solidarity with New Zealand in a time of such extraordinary circumstances. The assistance and support they gave to the New Zealand Muslim community - with many travelling there to offer their support and to personally pay their condolences - is commendable. I had the honour of thanking them in Parliament
