A further $200 million is now available for Round Two of the $1 billion Regional Development Australia Fund (RDAF), Federal Member for Calwell Maria Vamvakinou announced today.

In recent days I have had much pleasure in being present at the recognition ceremonies for many of the schools in my electorate as their Building the Education Revolution programs have been officially opened. Each and every student, teacher and parent I have encountered is absolutely rapt with the new facility in their school community. They are very grateful and they want me to convey to the government their deep gratitude and their many thanks for the resources that were made available to their school community. I do want to name some of those schools, because it is very important to recognise the good work that they do.

37 local community organisations in Calwell are among 4,600 across Australia to benefit from the Federal Government’s $16 million Volunteer Grants initiative. These local organisations will share in almost $150,000 to support the work of their volunteers. Federal Member for Calwell Maria Vamvakinou said the Government’s investment was delivering much-needed support to local volunteers.

Federal Member for Calwell, Maria Vamvakinou, congratulated Nexteer Automotive Australia (Nexteer) on being awarded $63 million under the Australian Government’s Green Car Innovation Fund (GCIF) for a project that will generate hundreds of new jobs.

I was pleased to announce together with the Minister for innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator Kim Carr, that the Federal Government will invest $30 million to increase Australia’s research capacity through Broadmeadows company CSL. The company is a provider of vaccines, anti-venoms and blood products. The research will benefit the whole of Australia and possibly the world. The funding will result in 333 ongoing, highly skilled jobs and an average of 320 full-time jobs during construction.

Members of the Broadmeadows Historical Society were among the first consumers  to  “ test drive “  a new  financial  website aimed at making money matters easy. The MoneySmart website, developed by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) , was launched at the Hume Global Learning Village  recently by Member for Calwell Maria Vamvakinou, Assistant Treasurer Bill Shorten and Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer David Bradbury.
