Patients can expect to see a refurbished medical clinic in Calwell, thanks to the Dr Amjad Hussain receiving $300,000 as part of the Gillard Government’s primary care infrastructure grants. Over 240 organisations around the country have been shortlisted as successful applicants for primary care infrastructure grants of up to $500,000.

“We want to make it easier for Australians to see a doctor when they need to,” Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon explained. “These grants will help local doctors to expand the services they offer to their communities.” Federal Member for Calwell Maria Vamvakinou said the grants are being used to refurbish or extend treatment and training rooms around the country.“Many grants will be used to provide patients with access to new health professionals such as diabetes educators, mental health workers and physiotherapists. “This is great news for Calwell, as it will mean patients will soon be able to access a wider range of services.”

The second round of Primary Care Infrastructure Grants is expected to be advertised in March 2011.
