Establishment of a University Campus in Cragieburn
An accessible and affordable education is a fundamental right of all. Education is a passport to success.

It is an established fact that in general Australians with a TAFE or university qualification have higher incomes, greater job security and better health than those without post-secondary qualifications.
Under the Howard Government, we have seen too many talented young Australians being turned away because of access and affordability. The people of Craigieburn will not forget that since 1996 over $5 billion dollars in public funding has been ripped out of our university system by the Howard Government.
The young people of Craigieburn are one such example. Lack of adequate public transport means that physically accessing university is a momentous challenge in itself, indeed, for many, this distance is a barrier.
Today Maria Vamvakinou MP, the Federal Member for Calwell highlighted the following points:
“As a mum and former teacher, I am passionate about the value of education, and the pathways it opens for our young people. Its great to see Hume taking the initiative by starting this important debate.”
“As the local Federal Member, I am committed to creating more opportunities for people to get a university or TAFE qualification. The establishment of a university in Craigieburn will provide an educational gate way for thousands of local kids.”
Ms. Vamvakinou concluded by saying:
“A new university in Craigieburn, hand-in-hand with Labor’s Aim Higher Policy which creates and fund an extra 20,000 university places, 20,000 extra TAFE places, will maximise the educational opportunities for all Australians, especially those in regional areas such as Craigieburn.”
