I gave a speech in parliament on International Day of People with Disability - Australia.
I spoke about members of my electorate such as Janet Curtain - a passionate advocate for people with disabilities - and Nazim Erdem, gold medal winning Wheelchair Rugby athlete and five time member of the Australian Paralympic Team.
My electorate of Calwell has found fun ways to celebrate this year's International Day of People with Disability. AMF Bowling Centre at Watergardens T...own Centre will host a Disabled Bowling Day this Saturday and next Saturday Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre will transform into 'disco mania' for people with disabilities and their carers.
I want to highlight a quote from Janet which I believe sums up this day and what it means perfectly:
“For me, International Day of People with Disability is not only celebrating people's abilities, tenacity and determination to live their lives the way they choose, but even more so celebrating how far society has come in their awareness of differences and diversity where people are not defined by their disability, but are seen for the people they really are.”
