Frontline health services in Coolaroo will be expanded, with a $500,000 boost from the Gillard Government, Federal MP for Calwell, Maria Vamvakinou announced today. The grant to Coolaroo Clinic in Barry Road under the GP Primary Care Infrastructure Grants will make it easier for patients to see their doctor.“Making sure families can access the healthcare they need close to home is a key part of the Gillard Government’s Health Reforms, and this grant will help make that happen,” Ms Vamvakinou said.“Coolaroo Clinic is a valuable community asset that already offers much needed primary health care, cultural understanding, support, advice and linkages to other services in our region.”
Ms Vamvakinou said the financial support would enable Coolaroo Clinic to extend its consulting hours, build more consulting rooms to accommodate additional doctors, additional nursing hours, and an expanded teaching role for medical and allied health students.“Coolaroo Clinic has demonstrated its ability to meet the varied needs of the community, with an ability to consult in a number of community languages, and a commitment to preventative health strategies.  “The Clinic’s commitment to expanding allied health services is particularly important, given the shortage of such services in this part of Melbourne, while its commitment to providing an expanded teaching role is important in helping to combat long term workforce shortages,” Ms Vamvakinou said.
