Federal Member for Calwell Maria Vamvakinou is encouraging residents to help promote community participation by nominating for a place as a People of Australia Ambassador.Ms Vamvakinou said forty ambassadors will be chosen from across Australia to advise the Australian Multicultural Council (AMC) about effective initiatives to promote social harmony.
“People of Australia Ambassadors will provide grass roots advice to the independent multicultural council and feed information to Government about community programs,” Ms Vamvakinou said.
“Ambassadors will be able to provide advice to the Prime Minister and have an opportunity to promote the positive work they undertake in our community.” Nominees for the People of Australia Ambassador program will have demonstrated a strong commitment to inclusion or may have involvement in a diverse range of community work which unites all Australians. The selection criteria are:
1. Have demonstrated a strong commitment to a socially cohesive society through active community engagement.
2. Have a good understanding of their community.
3. Be able to demonstrate strong leadership in the community, particularly around issues of diversity and social cohesion.
4. Have a strong community network with a capacity to influence and engage with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
5. Be of good character and be able to exemplify honesty, integrity and ethical conduct in the course of their ambassadorial duties. Nominations will be considered by the Australian Multicultural Council and close on Friday, 7 October.Details can be found at www.amc.gov.au
