“In the face of a growing population and the emerging effects of climate change, communities in Calwell face increasing pressure in securing their water supplies,” Ms Vamvakinou said.
“The funding will go towards the construction of a recycled water pipeline to the Goonawarra Sports Reserve. The reserve is the only remaining recreation reserve in Sunbury that is not yet on recycled water.”
“The Securing Water for Sunbury Community Facilities will reduce the demand on potable supplies through various uses of recycled water by up to 12 million litres each year, thereby improving water security for the local community.”
Funding has been provided by the Federal Government’s National Water Security Plan for Cities and Towns program, which supports communities with fewer than 50,000 people by funding practical projects that save water and reduce water loss.
The National Water Security Plan for Cities and Towns program is part of the Federal Government’s comprehensive, long-term Water for the Future initiative.
