Today Maria Vamvakinou MP, the Federal Member for Calwell condemned the Federal Government for closing the Television Blackspots Program without addressing reception problems in the Bulla township.

“It is clear from Minister Coonan’s answers to questions in Senate Estimates that the television reception problems in Bulla will not be fixed under the Television Blackspots Program despite three million dollars in funding being left unspent.” said Ms Vamvakinou.

“Time and time again this Government shows its disregard for small towns across Australia. It's an absolute disgrace that residents in Bulla, only a stones throw from Melbourne Airport, can’t get decent television reception.” said Ms Vamvakinou.

“Just as I joined with the community over twelve months ago to fight to get Broadband ADSL installed in Bulla, I will stand with the community to get a Television Re-transmission service installed in Bulla.” said Ms Vamvakinou.

“Rather than putting the unspent funding back into Government coffers, the Howard Government should be spending it on its allocated purpose, to improve television services across Australia. I will be demanding that the Minister establish a new program to help communities address television reception problems.” said Ms Vamvakinou.
