Ms. Vamvakinou said she was very proud of both The School of Good Shepherd and Roxburgh College for receiving these awards.
"It is gratifying to see that both of these schools are excelling in the literacy and numeracy areas" Ms. Vamvakinou said. National Literacy and Numeracy Week is an Australian Government initiative, run in collaboration with State and Territory Governments, which aims to:
* Showcase the hard work school communities are undertaking in improving literacy and numeracy skills
* Recognise the outstanding results that have been achieved
* Raise community awareness of the importance of all Australian students developing effective literacy and numeracy skills
* Build on national initiatives to improve literacy and numeracy standards among young Australians Ms Vamvakinou said that both Literacy and Numeracy skills are essential for building a strong foundation for a student's future, and it was clear that both of these schools are continuing to improve its programs in these areas to ensure student's are getting the most out of their time at school.
National Literacy and Numeracy week will be staged from 28 August-3 September this year.
